See & do at Årås

Årås Estate & Gardens is wonderfully situated in the middle of the Årås nature reserve. It has everything you need to enjoy a relaxing stay – but if you prefer to exert yourself, there are plenty of things to experience both on the grounds and in the area!

HIKING & BIKING

There is a wide variety of outdoor activities to get involved in, including hiking and biking on the trails that start and end at the Årås Mill. If you don’t have your bike with you, you can rent one of ours.

WATER & BOATING

If you want to go for a swim or fishing or canoeing, there are plenty of opportunities to do so in the nearby Jogen and Vållern lakes. Canoes and boats are available to rent.

GOLF

Golf enthusiasts have two exciting options a stone’s throw from Årås.Ryfors Golf Coursewhich is Sweden’s first and oldest, lies about 15 km from Årås. Ulricehamn Golf Course is another option, and is about 20 km from Årås.

EKOMUSEUM VÄSTERGÖTLAND

Årås is part of the Ekomuseum Västergötland Culture Trail, which encompasses a great many destinations and activities. Another on the trail is the well-known Ekehagen prehistoric village, which allows visitors to experience how people lived in prehistoric times.

VILDMARKSLEDEN/WILDERNESS PATH

Hike along the picturesque Vildmarksleden/Wilderness path, which starts and ends at Årås Mill. You can choose the difficulty of your hike, as there are 4 and 8.4 km options. As you follow the trail you’ll find signs that provide fascinating facts and insights into the area’s nature and surroundings.

ÄNGLALEDEN (‘the angel trail’)

The picturesque Änglaleden (‘the angel trail’) starts and ends at Årås Mill and provides two options for hikes, 4 and 8.3 km. As you follow the trail you’ll find signs that provide fascinating facts and insights into the area’s nature and surroundings.

ÄNGLALEDEN/HOUSE OF ANGELS’ TRAIL

The picturesque Änglaleden/House of Angels’ trail starts and ends at Årås Mill and provides two options for hikes, 4 and 8.4 km. Along the trail there are signs providing information about the nature and surroundings. Fans of Swedish drama films will be excited to learn that the trail was inspired by the classic House of Angels trilogy.

SJUHÄRADSLEDEN/THE SJUHÄRAD TRAIL, LEGS 9 AND 10

Sjuhäradsleden, Leg 9 (11,5 km)
An easily hiked leg that starts on tarmac but goes on to small gravel roads in a beautiful landscape. Passes through small villages dating back to the Middle Ages. The river valley is cultivated land, flanked by undulating forest tracts.

Sjuhäradsleden, Leg 10 (21,3 km)
An easily hiked leg that is exclusively on roads, mostly gravel roads as far as the village of Ryfors. The last 6 km before the town of Mullsjö goes through forested land along Södra Vätterleden/South Vättern trail. This takes you to the beautiful Trollsjön (which means ‘troll lake’ in Swedish), a small beach on lake Stråken, and a 300-year-old pine forest. The trail ends at the revered Hotel Mullsjö.
